Akpeteshie to be put in sachets

The locally distilled gin, akpeteshie, would soon be packaged into sachets to enhance easy handling and patronage among consumers.

Mr Martin Acheampong, Dormaa Municipal Manager of Dormaa branch of Ghana Co-operative Distillers Association, said this at the branch's annual general meeting at Dormaa-Ahenkro. He said the value addition would take the product to another level and shed off the negative notion usually attached to the gin by non-consumers.

"As is done by service providers and manufacturers all year round, products require to be re-examined occasionally and modified to meet existing market demands and this is what we seek to do", Mr. Acheampong said.

The union, Mr. Acheampong said, would mobilize monthly contributions from members of its five societies in Dormaa-Ahenkro, Amasu, Wamfie, Wamanafo and Nkrankwanta to serve as a revolving source of loan to members.

Nana Sikayena, a founding member of the branch, urged members of the association to abide by the rules and regulations and to comply with the assembly's bye-laws on distillation, particularly during the dry season.
