Two traders die while 17 other on admission

Kofigyankrom (W/R), Aug. 20, GNA - Two traders died on the spot and 17 others sustained various degrees of injuries, when the mummy truck on which they were travelling skidded of the main Tarkwa-Bogoso highway at 0230 hours on Wednesday. The dead and the other injured persons including the driver were rushed to the Tarkwa Hospital by other traders who arrived at the scene a few minutes after the accident. Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kofigyankrom near Tarkwa, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Isaac K. Sorkpah said the traders were returning from Bogoso and Sefwi Wiawso where they had gone to buy foodstuffs, and were returning to Takoradi on board a mummy truck with registration number WR 2437 when the incident occurred. He said though the vehicle was supposed to carry only three passengers including the driver, the 16 victims including the drivers mate were sitting on top of the foodstuffs, while two others were in the front seat with the driver. He said the vehicle had been damaged beyond repairs while the foodstuffs were scattered within the area. DSP Sorkpah said some of the victims were unconscious and had not yet been identified. The deceased were identified as Agnes C. Blay, aged 46 and Auntie Comfort aged 45. He said the deceased have been deposited at the Tarkwa Hospital for autopsy while the rest are on admission. 20 Aug. 09
