Tema fire victims receive relieve items

Tema, July 24, GNA- Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) on Friday presented relief items worth GH¢ 10,000 to victims of a fire disaster in the Metropolis.

The items include 440 pieces of roofing sheets, 122 students' mattresses, 600 cups and plates, 63 bags of rice, 60 bottles of cooking oil, 42 bags of cement, 23 bales of used clothing, and five boxes of roofing nails.

In all, fifty victims from the Kpone-Katamanso, Tema East and West constituencies, who lost their property in the fire outbreak benefited from the items.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Robert Kempes Ofosuware who presented the items, said they were meant to relieve the victims of their hardships.

Mr Ofosuware advised the public to use re-chargeable lamps whenever electric power went off, instead of lightening candles and other flames, which he said, could lead to fire outbreaks. He also urged the public not to use sub-standard electrical cables, which could set their houses on fire.

Mr Ofosuware said building structures at unauthorised places also prevented fire tenders from reaching fire scenes in time. Mr Asuah Mohammed, Assembly Member for the Padmore Electoral Area who received the items on behalf of the victims, thanked NADMO and TMA for the gesture, and promised to heed the advice of Mr Ofosuware.
