Group appeal to AMA to vote for Vanderpuije

Accra, April 21, GNA - The GaDangme Renaissance Union, a pressure group, on Tuesday called on the members of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to vote for Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije as its Chief Executive.

The group, at a press conference in Accra, appealed to President John Atta Mills and Mr. Nii Armah Ashitey, Greater Accra Regional Minister, to expedite action on the early voting to endorse Mr Vanderpuije to start work. Mr. Rashad Yasin Ofei Dodoo, the Union Chairman, said their worry is the delay in the confirmation process which is slowing the development of Accra.

"We wish to declare right here unequivocally our unflinching support for Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, a true versatile son of GaDangme and a man of the people", he said. Mr. Tony Amuzu, Vice Chairman of the North America Coordinating Council (NACC) of the National Democratic Congress said the members were firmly behind President Mills' nomination of Mr. Vanderpuije as the Chief Executive of the AMA since they know his capabilities as a member of the NACC.

Madam Mercy Needjan, Secretary of the Greater Accra Markets Association, congratulated Mr. Vanderpuije on his nomination and appealed to him, if elected, to improve the market facilities, keep the traders from the pavements and keep the streets from human traffic.
