Government to nib accident activities in bud

Accra, April 1, GNA - The Minister for Transport Mr. Mike Hammah on Wednesday said government would take measures to nib in the bud practices and behaviours that caused road accidents.

He said all road users who did not comply with the country's road regulations would be made to face the law. Mr Hammah said this when he met a group of motorcyclists who ply their trade in the Accra Metropolis to caution them on their operations in the capital. He told the cyclists at the meeting which took place near the Accra

Post Office Square that apart from their services being illegal, they also exposed their clients to preventable accidents leading to loss of lives. He said the cyclists as well as their clients did not wear helmets and use reflectors, making it difficult for drivers to identify them, especially in the night.

He said government would soon find an alternative trade for them to enable them to abandon the practice. The cyclists, however, appealed to government not stop their services which, they said, were useful to the public especially during peak hours.
