Stop "Aseda" Tours - Asantehene To JAK

Otumfuo Osei tutu II, the Asantehene, has told President John Agyekum Kufuor that his tenure of office is not yet over so he should stop his ‘Aseda Tour’ with immediate effect.

President Kufuor whose tenure officially ends on January 7, 2009, recently embarked on a nationwide tour to express his gratitude to Ghanaians for their support in making his administration a success.

On Sunday, he kicked the Aseda Tour with a mammoth rally at the Atwima Nwabiagya constituency in the Ashanti region where he started his political career in the late 1960s. The Asantehehene indicated that until January 7, 2009, President Kufuor still remains the First Gentleman of the land so he should do away with complacency and continue his good works. He cautioned the President never to think that it is all over as regards his tenure, because “more tedious work is ahead of you and members of your administration.

The Asantehene told him that the four remaining months of his administration was the most difficult period so he should concentrate on his work and ensure that he bows out on a clean note. Otumfuo made the remarks a week ago when President Kufuor stormed the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi to officially introduce Nana Addo Dankwa Akufoo Addo as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate for the impending polls.He reminded President Kufuor that he assumed office in a peaceful atmosphere – therefore it behooves him to make sure he leaves office with the peace of the country intact.

The peace and harmony flourishing in the country presently, Otumfuo pointed out, could be sustained only when President Kufuor played an integral role.

The Asantehene thus implored the President to remain focused and not be content with the many successes he had chalked within the almost eight years of his rule. He emphasized that his numerous achievement would be in vain if there is turmoil in the country within the last four months of his administration.Meanwhile the Asantehene has promised to confer an honour on President Kufuor after he leaves office, for generations yet unborn to know his legacy.
