Tribal politics in Ghana can cause a lot of damage

Tepa (Ash), Sept. 17, GNA - Mr. Yaw Kusi Abora, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) said on Wednesday tribal politics in Ghana's body politic could cause a lot of damage and consequently destabilize the nation's fragile democracy.

He said the nation was at the crossroads and that it needed peace, stability and respect for the Rule of Law to sustain its investment drive to move faster into a middle income status.

Mr. Kusi Abora was addressing a forum on Tolerance for Peaceful non-violent free elections at Tepa in the Ahafo Ano North District. The forum organized by the Commission was attended by parliamentary aspirants, chiefs, religious leaders and some political party functionaries from the NPP, NDC, CPP and PNC.

Mr. Kusi Abora said investors needed peaceful and politically stable countries like Ghana to operate in and asked that people continue to spread the message of peace especially politicians to avoid unnecessary tension during and after the election. Nana Adusei Atwenewaa Ampem, Omanhene of the Tepa Traditional Area who chaired the function, said Tepa is a peaceful town and assured that he and his people would do everything possible to ensure peace and harmony.
