Ministry reminds public about opening of Burkina flood gates

Accra, Aug. 14, GNA - The Ministry of Information and National Orientation on Wednesday repeated a warning to communities in the Northern Region along the White Volta to secure life and property from the eminent spilling of water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso from August 21.

A statement signed by the Minister, Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng said the VRA had issued a warning following notification from the authorities in Burkina Faso that the floodgates of the dam would be opened because of the rapid rise in the water level of the dam. "The spillage will cause flooding along the banks of the White Volta and move downstream to affect communities in the Northern Region of Ghana," it said.

The Ministry asked all government institutions particularly district assemblies of the communities to take proactive measures to protect life and property.
