Voter exercise ends successfully in Sekondi

Sekondi, Aug. 13, GNA - The voter registration exercise for persons who are 18 years and above has ended successfully after a two day extension by the Electoral Commission (EC). A visit by the Ghana News Agency to some of the registration centres during the last two days revealed that the pressure was not as much as it used to be during the initial days, when the exercise begun. At the Chapel Hill area, Mr Columbus Brace, the Registration Officer said they run out of scannable forms but the EC provided them with provisional forms for the exercise. He said their printer gave them some problems and they could not issue many of the people with their voter identification cards. Mr Brace said a total of 680 people were registered out of which 170 were registered within the last two days. Mr William Owusu Nketsiah, Registration Officer at the Presbyterian Electoral Area noted that provisional forms were not scannable and this made their work difficult. Mr Francis Addae-Twum, a Registration Officer at the Takoradi Polytechnic station said the two days extension did not witness any major rush by the youth.

He said that many people rushed to register because they needed the voter identification cards to use them to register to obtain the national identification card. Mr Charles Kumordzi, Supervisor of the Zenith Electoral Area said the six polling stations under him registered a total of 1,068 during the entire exercise.

He said those aged 21 years and above were given questionnaires but many of them said they had either travelled or were sick during the previous registration exercise.
