Rawlings Cries Wolf -Nana

FLAGBEARER OF the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has finally broken the silence on the claims by the Rawlings' that he (Nana) and President John Agyekum Kufuor are not lawyers.

According to him, it was out of desperation to take over power which slipped off their hands over the years that has necessitated these tactics to woo back their adherents.

Addressing stakeholders of the party in Tamale as part of his Northern regional tour, he stated that the NPP is the first government ever in the history of the country with the means to support development and has the potential of retaining power for a very long time.

It was against this backdrop that Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings and his men were 'crying wolf', for fear that they might never have the opportunity to rule the country again.

He emphasized that policies that would be introduced during his tenure of office would develop Ghana so much that in every four years, the NPP would be retained automatically and unanimously by the people.

He appealed to the founding fathers of the party to settle the internal wrangling amicably and forge ahead according to the party's vision for the country, charging them to work hand-in-hand.

Nana, however, commended them for their sacrifices which have seen the NPP this far but have not yet been rewarded and compensated, noting that the recommendations by the Appiah-Menkah Committee would oversee these things to close the gap between the party and government.

The flagbearer also pleaded that grievances, hurt, misery and backbiting which existed among them should be eschewed for them to move ahead in line with his vision for mother Ghana.

And that the NPP, irrespective of the camps each belonged to during last year's congress at Legon, was now a new kingdom for party faithful so they should not be led down by matters which arose at the congress grounds.

He promised to take care of committed members of the party at their old age.

Nana later paid a courtesy call on the Dakpema, Naa George Iddrisu Alhassan.

The Chief on his part appealed to the flagbearer to advise his supporters to undertake their rallies devoid of violence in order not to stabilize the peace in the region.

While commending the NPP government on the various developmental projects being pursued, he asked the Presidential candidate alongside his team to consider rehabilitating the Tamale Teaching Hospital which served as the only referral hospital to the three Northern regions.

In response to the Chief's request, the 'Kangaroo dancer' said, the NPP government had already awarded the hospital to be upgraded and it formed part of government's agenda to give new looks to all regional hospitals in the country.

In Nyankpala, Tolon-Kumbungu, Nana Addo Dankwa and his entourage interacted with rice farmers and assured them of government's intervention to help them improve their yield.

He would later pay a courtesy call on the Tolon Naa and address a rally at Kumbungu before returning to Tamale, to meet with the Akan community.

Four Constituencies would be covered under tomorrow's visit, namely Karaga, Gushegu, Yendi and Mion.

Meanwhile, the massive crowd received on Sunday swelled up throughout all the centres that he visited.
