Germany's GTZ assists district assemblies

Sunyani, May 30, GNA - The German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ)has donated items worth GHC 23,000 to the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council and three other districts in support of establishing reliable District Database System (DDS). The beneficiary districts are Kintampo South, Tano North and Tain and each received computers and accessories, printers, air conditioners and photocopiers, whilst the Regional Coordinating Council got scanners and laptop computers.

Ms. Lynda Amengor, Fiscal Decentralisation and Financial Management Advisor of GTZ, said DDS could be used for planning, budgeting, revenue mobilisation and decision making. She said GTZ, in collaboration with the Local Governance and Poverty Reduction Support Programme seven districts namely Jaman North, Jaman South, Asunafo North, Asunafo South, Dormaa, Wenchi and Tain were supported in 2004 to establish a database. She lauded the improvement of some districts in budget planning and revenue mobilisation.

Mr. Nikolas Beckmann, programmes leader of the Support for Decentralisation Reform who presented the items, also advised the districts to be committed in ensuring that their efforts paid off. He said the items were presented on request by the RCC in order that the entire region benefits from the gains made by the seven pilot districts. Mr. Nicholas Lenin Anane-Agyei, Tano North District Chief Executive, expressed gratitude on behalf of the other districts for the assistance.
