Kabaka of Buganda visits Kumasi

Kumasi, May 17, GNA - The Kabaka (King) of Buganda in Uganda, His Majesty, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi 11 on Saturday paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The Kabaka is in the country at the invitation of Otumfuo Osei Tutu to serve as the guest of honour of a special "Akwasidae" celebration to be held at the Manhyia on Sunday. Kabaka Mutebi, as part of the visit to the Palace, toured the Manhyia Museum where he and his entourage were briefed on the heroic achievements of the Asante Kingdom by Mr Yaw Antwi Poakwa, Director of the Museum.

Oheneba Adusei Poku, the Akyenpimhene of Kumasi led the entourage around. Speaking to the media before entering a closed-door meeting with the Asantehene, Kabaka Mutebi, said the visit, which is his first to Ghana, was to strengthen the already cordial relationship existing between the Kingdom of Buganda and that of the Asante as well as Uganda and Ghana as a whole, adding that, it would further boost the quest for greater unity and development on the African Continent. He said the visit would also afford him the opportunity to learn at first hand the history, culture and traditions of the Asante people, which he had heard and read about many times. As part of the 5-day visit, Kabaka Mutebi would visit Nobewam and Hwereso in the Ejisu-Juaben District; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology; Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited plant and the National Cultural Centre all in Kumasi.
