NPP Will Lose Election 2008-URP

Brongahafoweb.com - The United Renaissance Party, (URP) says the ruling NPP would lose the December 2008 general elections because most Ghanaians are fed up with their policies and programmes.

The Brong-Ahafo regional Youth Organiser of the party, Mr. Frank Korang Takyi, who said this in an interview with brongahafoweb in Sunyani, added that ?in the 2000 and 2004 elections, the NPP won with the support of teachers but with few months to the next elections, teachers are no longer happy with the NPP?. Mr. Korang Takyi said some few days to the 2004 general elections, the then minister for Local Government, Hon. Kwadwo Adjei Darko instructed the distribution of HIPC exercise books to secondary schools in the country. He said students were asked to vote for the NPP to enable them receive more assistance from the government.

The teachers gladly distributed the books while most of the students of voting age voted for the NPP.

The youth organiser pointed out that after teachers have assisted the NPP to power, the government has turned its back on them. He mentioned low salaries, poor accommodation and government?s embargo on salaries of NAGRAT members, as reasons why teachers will not vote for the NPP in the December elections.

?Some teachers share single r ooms with their spouses and children and such people have given the URP the assurance that they are fed up with the NPP and are ready to vote for a new party?, he said.

Mr. Korang Takyi said such disgruntled Ghanaians believe a fresh party such as the URP should be given the mandate to rule the country. Meanwhile the delegates? congress of the URP has been slated for June 24, 2008 in Accra.

Three people would be contesting for the party?s flagbearership. They are the founder of the party, Mr. Charles Kofi Wayo, a lecturer at the Sunyani Polytechnic and a professor at the University of Ghana.
