Doctors go by boats to treat school kids at Bomigo

Ho, April 23, GNA - A group of doctors would on Thursday travel across the Keta Lagoon on canoes to Bomigo in the Keta District to screen scores of school children for diseases. Bomigo is one of the many hard-to-reach atoll communities within the sprawling coastlands of Keta District, often avoided by public officers.

The doctors would give treatment, and if need be, refer cases for further examination to nearby health institutions. The programme, which is under the aegis of the Volta Division of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), is dubbed "Operation Recover Forgotten Territories" and forms part of the 50th year celebration of the association.

Dr Gafatsi Normanyo, GMA Volta Division Chairman, said the thrust of the outreach is to bring health needs of school children and adolescents strongly back on the national agenda. 23 April 08
