Voter' ID Replacement exercise is to prevent double registration

Sekondi, March 17, GNA - The Lost Voter' Identity Card Replacement Exercise is to prevent double registration during the revision of voters register in May, Mr George Gyaabah, Deputy Western Regional Director of Electoral Commission (EC), said on Monday. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sekondi, he said experience had shown that those who lost their voter identity cards preferred re-registering to get new identity cards to seeking for a replacement.

Mr Gyaabah said the replacement exercise was to ensure that majority of people obtained replacement identity cards before the revision of voters' registration.

He said those who had lost their voter identity cards and were on transfer could obtain replacement identity cards provided they could disclose where they registered. During a visit to the Cocoa Training School Voter' Identity Cards Replacement Centre, Mr Francis Whajah, the Replacement Officer, said so far 22 persons have registered at the centre for the replacement of their cards.

At the Takoradi Neighbourhood Centre Replacement Centre, Mr Columbus Brace, the Replacement Officer, said 58 persons had registered at the centre for the replacement of their voter identity cards.
