Five communities to enjoy electricity soon

Axim (W/R), Feb. 17, GNA- Five communities in the Nzema East District of the Western Region are to be connected to the national electrification grid soon, under the rural electrification programme. The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr Joshua Kwajah-Ellimah said this at the fifth Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Axim on Thursday.

The communities are Anibil-Bamiankor, Gwira Banso, Agyan-Domunli-Akonu, Awuku-Agona-Eguafo and Kakusuazo. On the National Health Insurance Scheme, he said as at December 2007 the scheme had registered 52,317 people in the district and 34,450 out of the number had been issued with identification cards. He said an amount of GHc91,619 as premium has been collected so far by the scheme.

The DCE said out of an amount of GHc669,081 in respect of hospital bills of the clients, GHc552,705 has been paid. He said the scheme had received a total claim support of GH526,435 from the National Health Commission, adding that, monthly hospital attendance was about 3,028 in the district.

Mr Kwajah-Ellimah said a total of 300 youth have been engaged as community education teaching assistance and 142 others are in Agriculture under the National Youth Employment Programme. He said a total of 1,111 pupils are fed under the School feeding Programme and a total amount of GH78,540 was utilised under the programme last year, adding that, 11 more schools would be added to the programme this year.
