Oral and anal sex on ascendancy in Brong Ahafo

Sunyani, Feb. 15, GNA - A research conducted by the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) has revealed that oral and anal sexual practices have gained prominence in Sunyani and Techiman municipalities in the Brong-Ahafo region.

Mr Yaw Adu Okyere, Regional Manager of PPAG, who disclosed this, blamed the situation partly on the adoption of certain western lifestyles by the youth and called for a ban on the importation of pornographic materials into the country.

He was speaking at an institutional building and youth empowerment workshop for students and opinion leaders in Sunyani on Friday. The two day workshop, which was under the theme: "Building the capacity of the youth, a way to fight HIV/AIDS," was organized by the National Council of Ghana Young Men's Christian Association, a non-governmental body.

Mr Okyere appealed to the public not to stigmatize HIV/AIDS victims, saying they should rather be made to feel accepted by society as part of efforts to help reduce the spread of the pandemic. Mr Samuel Antwi, General Secretary of the Association, advised the youth to ensure regular medical check-ups to know their health status. He underscored the need for people living with HIV/AIDS to access anti-retroviral drugs and cautioned them against alcoholism, smoking and other unhealthy practices.

Mr Antwi stressed that St Valentine's Day was set aside to demonstrate compassion and love to promote togetherness among the people and urged the students not to use the Day to engage in unhealthy practices. 15 Feb. 08
