NDC to train 120,000 polling agents

Koforidua, Feb.12, GNA -The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is to train 120,000 polling agents to protect its interest during the voters' registration exercise and general elections in December. Mr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, National Organizer of NDC announced this at the opening of two-day trainers for training workshop for delegates from constituencies in the Eastern Region at Koforidua on Tuesday. The training formed part of the party's programme to ensure well equipped and motivated agents prepared to sacrifice to protect the party's interest.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo noted that there was no way the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could defeat the NDC in any elections organised in the country but the party made some few mistakes during the 2000 and 2004 elections that made the NPP win the elections.

"The NDC has evaluated itself and build the capacity of its leadership to face the challenges ahead, "he added.

Mr Edward K. Doe Adjaho, Member of Parliament for Avenor Ave and a leading member of the party said similar training programmes were being organised simultaneously in two other regions, Central and Western Regions to be followed in three other regions on Thursday. He pointed out that polling agents of the party, should be well trained and equipped to be able to protect all the necessary documents and challenge any malpractices at the polling stations. Mr Julius Debrah, Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, observed that most Ghanaians were not happy with the socio-economic policies of the government and would vote for the NDC in December. He reminded the participants that the party was entrusting its destiny into their hands at the polling stations during the elections.
