Let's soccer euphoria permeate into school sports - Ohene

Accra, Feb. 6, GNA - Minister of State at the Education, Science and Sports Ministry, Miss Elizabeth Ohene has urged Ghanaians to make the soccer euphoria of the Nations Cup permeate into school sports. She said if the zeal and ecstasy of the football fans could be developed it would go a long way to holistically develop sports through school games to profit future sportsmen and sportswomen. Miss Ohene told the GNA Sports that the time had come for parents to thrive on the current ecstasy that had engulfed the nation to encourage youth participation in sports beginning from the schools.

"I have been very pleased with the level of support the nation has enjoyed so far as host of the Nations Cup and it is my wish that we will continue from there after the competition. "I think this euphoria has taken us to that level where mothers would be ready to remind their children that it is time to go for tennis or football lessons."

Miss Ohene said the passion with which especially women have supported the Black Stars and their general knowledge of the game was a positive sign that must be built upon for sports development. She said the mass support for the Black Stars, the national senior team, had come to the fore because women got involved in cheering them. "Supporting the Stars has become very popular because women got involved by dressing flamboyantly in the national colours and voicing out their love for the Team."
