DANIDA's programmes commended

Mr. George Anaba, Upper West Regional Co-ordinating Director, on Thursday commended the Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) for their continued support to the country's development.

He said DANIDA's numerous interventions in the health, water, local government and human resource development sectors especially in the Upper West Region have in no small measure improved living standards.

Mr. Anaba was speaking at the handing over ceremony of a 280 million cedi block to the Ministry of Health for use as medical equipment maintenance workshop.

The building, comprising a workshop, store and offices was financed through DANIDA's health sector support project.

Mr. Anaba asked public servants to take good care of structures placed under their care, saying the notion that public service structures are maintenance shy should not be allowed to become a culture.

Mr Klaus Purup, adviser, Estate Management Unit of DANIDA said the workshop would carry out maintenance of the medical and electrical equipment of health facilities in the region. He said an effective equipment maintenance service would ensure continuity of services, accuracy of diagnosis and treatment and safety of patients and staff.

Mr. Francis Banka, Regional Director of Health Services said the major problem facing the health sector was the lack of maintenance culture.

He commended the contractor, Al-Zon Enterprise for his good work and urged other contractors working on health projects to emulate him.
