Nduom wins CPP race

Delegates of the Convention People’s Party, meeting at a congress in Kumasi, has voted for Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom to be the party’s presidential candidate in the 2008 elections.

He polled 1067 votes, beating, Prof. A. B. Akosah to second place. Prof. Akosah won 644 votes.

Others vying for the presidential slot included, Dr. Kwaku Osafo who won 48 votes, Bright Akwetey, who won 37 votes and the CPP’s presidential candidate in 2004, George Aggudey who polled 139 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Dr. Nduom thanked the delegates for choosing him over the others, signalling the CPP’s readiness to wrestle power by stating that “the campaign has already started”.

Delegates also completely overhauled the CPP’s national executive. Lardi Nylander is the party’s new national chairman, replacing Dr. Edmund Delle. General Secretary, Nii Noi Dowuona also lost his job to Ivor Greenstreet (who uses a wheelchair).
