Children's NGO seek media's help

Accra, Oct. 30, GNA - Participants at a workshop on Tuesday called for more involvement of the media in educating the public on issues affecting the vulnerable in society. "The problem of street children is very complex, which cannot be solved by one man, but needed consented efforts from all to make a difference", Ms Mette Jacobsguard, Consultant for Catholic Action for Street Children said.

The workshop was to solicit views from the media on how best the two could partner for effective dissemination of information about the plight of street children.

"This, I believe would help to improve the rights and lives of street children. Our goal is to help the street children by returning their dignity to them and to enable them to develop into respectful citizens of the society".

She observed that the partnership had become necessary to strengthen and complement each other's effort in ensuring the holistic development of such children.

Mr Jos Van Dinther, Director, CAS called for more research by journalists to come out with credible stories. He said CAS had five main different departments: Fieldwork, house of refuge, demonstration, education, hopeland and sponsorship departments, which complement their reformation process.
