I will transform economy - Frimpong-Boateng

Bolgatanga, Oct. 10, GNA- A New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant for Election 2008, on Monday pledged to transform Ghana's economy through the application of science and technology if elected as President of the country.

Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng noted that the global economy was driven by knowledge based on science and technology. The NPP presidential aspirant gave the assurance when he interacted with journalists in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region, after meeting with NPP delegates in the region.

He briefed them on his vision, mission, policies and solicited their support to enable him become NPP flag bearer for the 2008 Election. Prof. Frimpong-Boateng noted that even though Ghana was blessed with enormous human and natural resources, the country was yet to catch up with developed countries.

He explained that the situation was due to the lack of good leadership and hard working and disciplined citizens.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said he would ensure that Ghanaians produced their own goods for consumption instead of relying on importation of foreign goods.

He said if voted into power, "the situation whereby Ghanaian would want to import everything, even belt, spoons, pens, chalk, and cutlasses would become a thing of the past."

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said Ghanaians needed capacity building training and the required logistics to empower them to manufacture products for consumption and export.

The NPP presidential aspirant cited as example that, he used jetropha plant to manufacture biogas, which could be used as fuel for vehicles.

He said Ghanaians themselves could engage in mining of Gold, quarrying of limestone and the production of sheabutter among others instead of relegating these economic activities to foreigners.

Prof. Frimpong-Boateng said "Hardworking, punctuality, discipline and anti-corruption would be the hallmark of my administration," adding that his top priority would be irrigation, health and education.
