CSIR Appoints New Directors

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA- Dr. George Owusu Essegbey, Acting Director of Science Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research Institute (CSIR) has been appointment as the Director of the Institute.

Dr. Essegbey is currently a Principal Research Scientist and succeeded Dr John Gogo who retired in 2006.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Professor Emmanuel Owusu-Bennoah, Director-General of CSIR said Dr. Essegbey, during his one-year term of acting as the Director had initiated development programmes in the institute.

"George is young, smart, dynamic and very progressive and we believe he will turn around the fate of the Institute, which happens to be the smallest among the 13 Institutes of CSIR but vibrant". Dr. Essegbey would be responsible for policy research in the areas of innovations, technology development and transfer, new technologies and environment.

Until his appointment, he is the editor of Biotech. Ghana, a half yearly newsletter published by STEPRI. He is also the National Coordinator of African Technology Policy Studies Network, among other positions.

Dr. Joseph Opoku Fening, Acting Director of the Soil Research Institute has also been appointed as the Director of the Institute. He succeeded Dr. Rexford Asiamah who retired a year and a half ago.
