NPP accuses NDC for text messages

THE NATIONAL Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. John Kwame Boadu, has urged the members of the party to be very careful not to fall into the trap of the National Democratic Congress (NDC’s) attempt of sowing seeds of discord and disunity among them through negative text messages against their party’s presidential aspirants. He said comments and utterances from the leading figures of the NDC, indicated that apart from the fact that, the NDC is desperate to recapture power in 2008, which he doubted, he accused the NDC of adopting various schemes to cause disunity among the party members to their disadvantage.

“We should be mindful and conscious of the diabolical moves of our opponents. It was obvious that text messages coming out purported to come from the camp of any of our aspirants show that it was an attempt by the NDC to cause disunity among us. We should be careful about their moves,” he said.

Mr. Boadu, who made this disclosure at a seminar organized by the youth wing of the party in collaboration with the Conservative Party in UK under the theme, “Building a strong youth network”, stated that negative text messages against an individual was the ‘baby’ of the NDC, which was initiated by Dr. Ekwow Spio-Grabrah, who contested the flag bearership slot of the NDC and lost to Prof. John Evans Atta Mills.

The NPP youth leader at a two day opening ceremony of seminar for local organizers of the party which was attended by organizers drawn from various constituencies including Mr. Edwin Buckman from Cape Coast who doubles as the Presiding Member of Cape Coast Municipality, maintained that, “the NDC has deployed all manner of things to destroy us and if we are not careful, we shall fall into their trap.”

“They have tried hard to infiltrate into our ranks to cause troubles for us. We should be guided by our utterances because they know that, that it is only when we are divided that they can have their way,” he admonished.

Mr. Boadu urged the youth wing of the NPP not to be jittery and react negatively because of the negative text messages purported to have come from any camp of the aspirants.

The NPP whiz kid, a regular radio panelist, stated that though the NPP stands stall in winning the 2008 general elections because of the goodwill of President Kufuor and his legacies, members must not be complacent but must work tediously to ensure a resounding victory for the party.

“The task ahead of us in 2008 is crucial although it was clear that we are going to win, we must work hard to win the elections. It must be known to us that we are going to contest with the opposition party that has being in government for so many years and currently desperate to win 2008.”

He urged the organizers to re-direct their energies into bringing into the field of the NPP more youth and help propagate the messages to them rather than concentrating on machinations of the NDC to divert their attention.

The Youth Organizer believing that it was obvious that the NPP is winning the upcoming elections cautioned party members about their open declaration of support to any of the aspirants, stating that by openly declaring a support for a candidate, it would open an avenue for troubles for the party.

Mr. Boadu expressed grave concern about comments made by Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the NDC to the extent that the appointment of Mrs. Theodora Georgina Wood, as Chief Justice was a reward of being made the chairperson of Cocaine Committee.

“We want to sound a note of caution to all women in this country not to forget about the P/NDC atrocities to women.”

According to him the memories of stripping women naked by making womanhood mockery under the P/NDC regime including the unfortunate abduction of a Supreme Court Judge, who was then breast-feeding and was killed in cold-blooded were still vivid in mind.

“The utterances of the General Secretary of the NDC confirmed that the NDC has not changed from their old days,” adding that, “The Youth wing of the NPP will continue to rally solidly behind all women who are capable of doing something good thing in the interest of mother Ghana,” he said.

Mr. Boadu who read some of the text messages to the gathering, stated that the programme was meant to sharpen the skills of the youth and sustain the women in the youth wing of the party.

Mr. Andrew Baxter, a UK Conservative Party Campaign Consultant was the lead discussant with his colleague, Andrew Cave.

Mr. Baxter in his brief address, cautioned the party members to be aware of the tasks ahead of a ruling party.”
