NPP to Win Elections 2008 Handsdown - Akumfi

Space FM,Sunyani, July 23 - The Minister for Habours and Railways, Professor Ameyaw Akumfi, has reiterated that the NPP is poised to win the 2008 elections with an unprecedented margin without resort to any foul means because the party believes in the principles of democracy. He said the NPP is optimistic that Ghanaians would vote for it in 2008 because of its unique track record of sound economic management which has culminated in bringing down inflation and interest rates and stabilized the cedi against other currencies.

The minister added that the NPP has within the past six years given massive asistance to the vulnerable and the needy through poverty alleviation packages and has also shown respect for human rights and justice.

Professor Akumfi was delivering the key note address during the handing over ceremony organised by the Tertiary Students Confederacy(TESCON) of the NPP at the Sunayni Polytechnic. He noted that the introduction of the National Youth Employment Programme(NYEP) is another plus that would ensure victory for the NPP in 2008.

He said under presiden Kuffour, the country has enjoyed freedom of speech while his exemplary leadership has earned for the country massive debt relieve, respect and honour which has lifted the image of Ghana at the international level.

He pointed out that the NPP is convinced that Ghanaians would not make the mistake of voting for a party that would send them back to the dark days of violence, a culture of silence, intimidation and gross human rights abuses. Professor Akumfi however reminded the youth wing of the party not to allow self -enteredness, pettiness and jealousy to destroy the unity and cohesion of the party.

He said there is the need to manage internal conflicts among party activists and assist those becoming disgruntled due to the perception that they have been neglected, because it leads to people distancing themselves from party activities.

He urged TESCON members who he described as the academic foot soldiers of the party, to use their energy, knowlede and skills to help advance the cause of the party.

The minister gave the assurance that the party would continue to invest in the youth because they hold the key to the future development of the party and the country.

The new president of the Sunyani Polytechnic branch of TESCON, Mr Emmanuel Tweneboah Kodua, noted that the NPP is the only government after independence that has given enough hope for the youth.He said what is left is for the good story of the NPP to be told and that TESCON is the best group to do so.

He gave the assurance that TESCON would work hard to ensure total victory for the NPP in 2008 and commended the past excutives for their good work.

Other executives are, ouglas Asafo Agyei, Treasurer, Eunice Oti Asantewaa, Women's Organiser and Lily Donkor, secretary.The position of vice president could not be confirmed because of electoral dispute which is under investgation.
