Nine perish in road accident

Formaso (Ash), May 17, GNA- Eight persons, including a one-and-half year old baby girl, died on the spot and another later at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital when a Man Diesel vehicle run into the rear of a parked Setra Bus, forcing it into a valley at Formaso near Asankare in the Ashanti Akim South District at the weekend. Those who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the Nkawkaw Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for treatment.

It took personnel from the Juaso Police, Fire and Ambulance Services a couple of hours to retrieve both survivors and the dead from the bus, which was trapped beneath the truck in the valley. The dead and injured persons are yet to be identified. Police Inspector Joseph Amoabeng of Juaso Police Station, told the Ghana News Agency that the bus with registration number RT 6327, which was traveling from Accra to Paga in the Upper East region around 2030 hours developed a fault on reaching the outskirt of Formaso and parked by the road side.

He said while some of the passengers alighted and boarded other vehicles, some remained in the bus. According to Inspector Amoabeng, the truck, which was heading towards Kumasi suddenly run into the rear of the bus killing instantly eight persons on board. Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, Bongaline Issah, has been remand in prison custody by the Juaso Circuit Court to reappear on May 28.
