Ghana Water Partnership holds AGM

Accra, May 3, GNA - Ghana Water Partnership, a non governmental organization, says it will carry its campaign for sustainable management of water resources to the doorsteps of consumers. Speaking at the second annual general meeting of the GWP in Accra on Thursday, Mr Nii Boi Ayibotele, Chairman, said consumers needed to understand how their activities could impact on the availability of water for future use to enable them to fight against any such degradation.

This would also stand the consumers in a good position to be able to influence policy as well as the cost of supply of water. Hitherto, the GWP advocacy had been targeted at government, institutions and stakeholders involved in the water sector.

Mr Ayibotele said another area of the partnership concern was with governance of water resources at the district and local levels in ways that would ensure that institutions tasked with the responsibility in managing the resources delivered on their responsibility without jeopardizing the resources.

He underscored the importance of the Ghana water policy, saying it was to promote the holistic development of water resources to meet all needs without danger and degradation to the ecosystem. The GWP was founded some five years ago with the mission to support countries in the sustainable management of water resources through the creation of local and community water partnerships. It is also to promote the exchange of technical know-how and to create public awareness.
