NCCE holds public durbar on re-denomination of the cedi

Tepa-Ashanti, March 25, GNA - Mr Robert Bennet Forkuo, Ahafo-Ano North District Director of National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has advised the public to show interest in the on-going education on the re-denomination of the cedi. He said this would enable them to understand the relationship between the old and new notes and coins that would be used side by side for six months.

Mr Forkuo gave the advice at a public durbar organized by the NCCE at Beposo near Tepa-Ashanti at the weekend to educate the people on the re-denomination of the cedi that would start in July this year. He said after the six months, the old notes and coins would cease to be legal tender but people could still exchange them for new notes and coins at any commercial bank and the Bank of Ghana (BOG). Mr Forkuo appealed to the public not to panic and rush to change their monies in order not to fall prey to people who might take advantage of the situation to cheat them.

He said the new currency would have special features for easy identification by the blind in society. Mr Forkuo advised the public especially traders to handle the new notes with care to make them clean and durable. He announced that the NCCE would hold several durbars and visit all communities and institutions especially churches, mosques, lorry stations, markets and schools to educate the public before July. 25 March 07
