TIGO urged to give priority to new districts

Wa, Dec. 6, GNA - Millicom Ghana Limited, operators of TIGO cellular network has been asked to give priority to the coverage of newly created districts in its expansion programme.

Alhaji Alhassan Issahaku, Deputy Upper West Regional Coordinating Director, who made the call, noted that the provision of communication facilities in the new districts would speed up their development as most of them, especially those in Upper West, lacked such amenities. Alhaji Issahaku, who was speaking at the opening of the Upper West Regional TIGO office at Wa on Tuesday, urged it to sustain its efficiency even as it expands its operations to more communities.

Mr Mark Procter, Chief Operations Officer of TIGO, said availability of good communication facilities was a vital tool for economic development through the creation of job opportunities and generating access to business entities and the internet. He mentioned Bole, Sawla and Damango in the Northern Region, Nadowli, Jirapa, Nandom, Lawra, Daffiama and Babile in the Upper West Region as having been recently covered by the company.

Within the next one and half months, he said, Funsi in Wa East, Gwollu in Sissala West and Ullo in Jirapa/Lambussie would be hooked onto the TIGO network while a new call site would be established at the Wa campus of the University of Development Studies.
