NDC Is Broke!

Accra (ThePoint) - The main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress is facing serious cash flow and this might affect the smooth organization of its national congress scheduled for this month. Highly placed source at the party’s headquarters said “our party is simply broke and unless some benevolent person comes to our aid, it would be difficult for us to organize our congress.

According to the source, the total expenditure of the national delegates congress would not be less than 3 billion cedis taking into consideration the number of delegates who are supposed to attend. The source pointed out that “we are expecting 100million cedis from each of the four presidential aspirants but even it is not all of them who have fully paid”. The source however failed to disclose the names of the presidential aspirants who are yet to fully pay their fees.

The council of elders of our party plan to finance the delegate’s congress in the absence of adequate party funds. The elders are hoping to resolve cash problems with the flagbearer-elect after the Congress, the source said. He also disclosed that the founder of the party, Mr. Rawlings is expected to make some financial contribution for the national delegate’s congress.

He debunked media speculation that the founder of their party is globe-trotting soliciting funds from his friends, especially those in the oil-rich country for the organization of the congress and subsequent campaign in the 2008 general election. He recalled with nostalgia how NDC used to be solvent when they were in power.

“It is still fresh in my mind how we used to mobilize funds for such important activities like our national conference”. Touching on the main congress itself, the source said adequate measures have been put in place to avert any nasty incident like the one which occurred at Legon.
