La Police revoke another curse

Accra, Oct. 24, GNA - The La Divisional Police on Tuesday prayed to God to revoke a curse pronounced on the Police by a Priestess, Shankie and seven others, who had been served with a notice of summons after they had disrupted work on a project site.

Shankie and the seven other accomplices had invoked death to any Police Officer, who tried to arrest them for demolishing a public toilet put up by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on a land which they claimed ownership of.

Police said Shankie stripped herself naked and while using the traditional food of the Gas, Kpoikpoi, fresh eggs, a bottle of schnapps and black concoction she performed the ritual at the entrance of the project site to curse the Contractor, AMA and the Police at Labadi. This is the second time in a month that Priestesses at La had invoked the power of God against the La Police.

Speaking to the GNA, the District Commander of the La Divisional Police, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Andane Nyamekye said the Assemblyman for the area, Mr Gans Lartey together with the Contractor working on the project came to report to the Police that Shankie and seven others had come to the project site and demolished the fence wall. They also covered areas that had been dug and released stray animals which had been seized by AMA.

DSP Nyamekye said in order for peace to prevail in the area the Police invited the suspects but Shankie rained insults on the Police and threatened them with death through curses.

He said to avoid any further problems, the Police decided to take criminal action against the Priestess and her group. Police served the summons on three of them on Monday.

DSP Nyamekye said he led an operation to Shankie to serve her with her summons and also to produce the rest of her people, but she was not at home. He said he had wanted to 93arrest her and put her behind bars to serve as a deterrent to others, who are in the habit of stripping themselves naked, insulting and cursing the Police to hamper their work".

"I'm taking the most serious view of this case. This is not the first time that this woman has behaved in such a manner.

"This is the third time some unscrupulous people among the good people of Labadi are trying to intimidate the Police by means of threats of death when they commit an offence. I'm also serious because this woman was the Leader, who came to plead on behalf of those involved in the first incident involving three Priestesses.

DSP Nyamekye said this was an intentional and deliberate attempt to make the work of the Police very difficult, as this time around she led the team of Priestess and performed a ritual.

DSP Nyamekye said he and his men were not moved by these curses since they believed in the Supreme Being and have been praying earnestly for God's protection and guidance.
