Atta-Mills assures party supporters of victory

Kumasi, Oct. 12, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Former Vice President and aspiring Presidential candidate of National Democratic Congress (NDC), has assured members of the party that, he would not disappoint them in the 2008 general elections.

He said he had the qualities that the NDC needed to win the elections and there was the need for the delegates to give him the opportunity to lead the party to contest the elections.

Speaking to the media in Kumasi on Wednesday ahead of a meeting with constituency delegates from the Ashanti region, Prof Atta-Mills said he would give hope and satisfaction to members of the party and Ghanaians in the 2008 elections, when given the mandate. He stated that, Ghanaians were aware of the state of hopelessness in the country as a result of armed robberies, cocaine menace, energy crisis, frequent workers strikes and said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with all the resources at its disposal had failed the nation. Prof. Atta-Mills appealed to the delegates to give him the mantle to lead the party in order to win the elections to bring joy and happiness to the people.

Nii Lante Vanderpuye, a member of the Prof. Atta-Mills Campaign team, said the NDC had still not accepted the fact that it lost the 2004 elections.

He said results of the 2004 elections were still being contested in court, adding that, Prof Atta-Mills decided to admit defeat in order to ensure peace and stability in the country.

Nii Vanderpuye appealed to the delegates to accept that fact and vote for Prof. Atta-Mills to lead the party to win the 2008 elections.
