Takoradi Port risks International isolation

Takoradi, Oct 1, GNA - Captain James Owusu-Koranteng, the Acting Director of the Takoradi Port, has said that stowing away is one of the major challenges facing the port.

He said the Ghana Ports Harbours Authority (GPHA) was likely to loose many of its business opportunities and suffer international isolation if the menace continued.

Capt Owusu-Koranteng said this at a press briefing on Friday as part of activities marking the 20th anniversary of the port. He said business people and don't patronize risky ports in any part of the world.

Capt Owusu-Koranteng said a closed circuit security television has been installed at vantage points to prevent pilfering and other negative acts in the port.

GHPA has bought a speedboat to be used for patrols in collaboration with other security agencies and port security. Capt. Owusu-Koranteng said discussions were ongoing for the construction of a cargo village and more warehousing facilities. He said a temporary parking lot had been found for haulage trucks to ease the perennial parking of large quantities of cocoa along major roads in Takoradi.
