Assemblies urged to facilitate investment in Elmina

Elmina, Sept 15, GNA - An investment to promote the vast tourism potential in Elmina was held on Thursday with a call on the district assembly to develop strategies that will promote the socio-economic potentials of the district.

The fair, the second to be held at Elmina, formed part of the "Elmina 2015 Strategy," seeks to identify, package and promote tourism and other socio-economic activities.

The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo Abrem (KEE) District administration, with support from its development partners in the Netherlands, has drawn strategies to give Elmina a face-lift under which other places of historical importance are being rehabilitated. Nana Ato Arthur, the Central Regional Minister, said the socio-economic benefit of the investment made at Elmina was immense and that it would generate employment and to improve sanitation. Mr Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Minister of Tourism and Diaspora Relations, said it was part of government's plans to develop Elmina into a premier town.

He urged all stockholders to support the project that has brought hope to the people of Elmina.

In a speech read for him the KEE District Chief Executive, Mr Frank George Asmah, said Elmina was gradually developing as a tourism destination.
