Ghanaians have not lost confidence in NPP

Kumasi, Sept. 11, GNA -- Mr Peter Mac-Manu, National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has denied that Ghanaians had lost confidence in the Party and were as a result yearning for a change. He said contrary to this speculation, the NPP was looking up to chalking a landslide victory in the 2008 elections as it had delivered on its campaign promises.

Mr Mac-Manu was speaking at the launch of the Race Course branch of the party in Kumasi at the weekend.

He cautioned Ghanaians to be wary of what he said was the politics of lies being advanced by a section of the citizenry to discredit the gains of government and also to tarnish the nation's image. While commending the government for initiating various programmes and projects to uplift the standard of living of Ghanaians, the NPP National Chairman noted that his party would not engage in activities that could tarnish the hard won reputation of the nation. He said the NPP believed in upholding the dignity of the Ghanaian people and would continue to pursue ventures aimed at boosting the nation's image.

Mr Mac-Manu said it was for this reason that the government kicked against the purported gay and lesbian conference, which was alleged to have been scheduled for Ghana.

"The NPP cherishes family values, societal norms and the rich cultural heritage of the nation and will not undermine these principles", he remarked.

Mr Sam Cudjoe, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, said it behoved members of the party to bury their differences and unite to ensure the party's growth.

He warned members to strive to use the party's laid down regulations to address issues instead of rushing to the press to advance their case.

Mr Mac-Manu also inaugurated a 14-member executive committee to run the affairs of the newly launched Race Course branch of the party with Alhaji Abu Mohammed as Chairman.

Other members include Mr Collins Oppong, General Secretary, Mr Tuffour Acheampong, Financial Secretary, Mr Godfred Kofi Asante, Youth Organiser and Agya Osei, Treasurer.
