DCE commends Iduapriem for prompt disclosure of output

Iduapriem (W/R), July 15, GNA - Iduapriem Limited gained a big plus when the mine was singled out as the most transparent in the disclosure of gold production and profits out of the various mining companies within the Wassa West District.

Mr Emmanuel Ayensu, District Chief Executive of the Wassa West District, on Thursday said year after year, Iduapriem had not only been the first company in the District to post its production results to the Assembly but had also been very transparent in the process.

Speaking when Mr Ketiboa Blay, Community and Social Development Specialist of International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank Group paid visited the Assembly to find out the level of collaboration between the Mine and the Assembly, Mr Ayensu urged other mines to follow the good example of Iduapriem which is owned by Anglogold Ashanti.

The DCE commended the Mine for being alive to its social

responsibilities, which, he said, had been demonstrated in the

provision of infrastructure such as school buildings, clinic and

KVIP's, and the introduction of the alternative livelihood

programme for the communities within its operational area. Mr Ayensu collaboration of the District Assembly with the Mine

in community development had improved and the District

appreciated the meeting initiated by the Mine last month seeking

collaboration to improve the living conditions of the community

members. Mr Blay informed the DCE that his mission was to understand

the socio-economic dynamics of the communities around the

mine and to find sustainable ways for better collaboration with the

company.
