Asenso-Okyere resumes work as Vice Chancellor

Accra, July 1, GNA - The Council of the University of Ghana, Legon, has asked Professor Kwadwo Asenso- Okyere to resume work as Vice Chancellor on Monday July 3, 2006.

A statement signed by Mr A.T. Konu, the registrar and secretary to the Council said: "It is noticed for general information that Professor K.Asenso Okyere should resume office as Vice Chancellor on 3 July 2006." The notice was dated June 30 2006.

Prof. Asenso-Okyere was in the middle of scandals of examination malpractices that rocked the University,, which led to disciplinary measures being taken against senior members and students. Professor Asenso-Okyere whose tenure of office ends on September 13, 2006 was dismissed following adverse findings made against him and others in the Report of a Disciplinary Committee headed by Professor Henrietta Mensah-Bonsu of the Faculty of Law with respect to examination malpractices that rocked the University in 2004

The Fast Track High Court however, reversed a decision to remove Professor Edward Ofori-Sarpong from the position of Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana and to also dismiss Professor Kwasi Agyeman, Head of the Philosophy Department.
