NPP retains seven MP's in the Eastern Region

Seven incumbent parliamentarians of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern Region have been retained unopposed to contest the forth-parliamentary elections in their various constituencies.

They are Naan Akuffo Addo, Abuakwa, Hackman Agyeman, New Juaben North, Nana Yaw Osafo Maafo, Akim Oda and Kwabena Okerchire Adusa, Nkawkaw.

The rest are Felixx Owusu Agyepong, Akim Swedru, Eugene Attah Adjepong, Abetifi and Dr. Osafo Mensah for Mpraeso. The regional Secretary of the party, Mr S.M. Ahyia released the list o f the NPP's candidates to newsmen at Koforidua.

He also mentioned Messrs. Peter Amoabeng, Asamankese, Ofosu Asamoah, a solicitor, Kade, Addo Amponsah, Afram Plains South and Kinston Kissi, a businessman, Akwatia as other aspiring parliamentarians who have been elected by the party at their constituencies' primaries.

He said five other candidates who contested on the party's ticket and lost in the 1996 parliamentary elections, have been returned unopposed.

They are Mr. Seth Wiafe Dankwa, Akuapem South, Ransford Adjepong, Businessman, Suhum and Dr. G. W. K. Siaw, Asuogyaman whilst Mr. Odoe Ceaserar, Dr. Osei Akoto and Mr. B. D. K. Adu have been elected unopposed to contest the Fanteakwa, Birim North and Okere seats.

In a related development, a-68-year-old retired educationist, Mr. Henry Dema-Narh has been elected to contest the lower Manya seat on the ticket of the party, at the constituency primaries held at Oduamase Kroboat the weekend.

Addressing the congress, Nana Akufo Addo, MP for Abuakwa, who was a special guest, re-echoed the need for Ghanaians to vote for the NPP to bring changes in the governance of the country since according to him the "National Democratic Congress (NDC) has failed the people."
