ISODEC urges govt to handle workers salaries fairly

Sumburungu (U/E), June 14, GNA - The Upper East Regional Director of Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), Mr George Akundikiya, on Wednesday appealed to the government to handle the salaries of public service workers fairly and uniformly to avert strikes. He made the call at the launch of the Students Representative Council (SRC) Week Celebration of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic at Sumburungu near Bolgatanga.

He said unless the government tackled salary discrepancies, workers would continue to embark on strikes. Mr Akundikiya stressed need for equity, fairness and uniformity of the salaries based on job evaluations as stipulated in the Ghana Universal Salary Structure.

Mr Akundikiya decried the spate of drug abuse among students on the campus and told them to desist from the act since it could harm them both mentally and physically.

The SRC President of the Polytechnic, Mr Joseph Apakre, urged the government to formalize and strengthen the practical industrial attachment programmes for the first and second year students of polytechnics.
