Editorial: Sack The Professors -Akosah

Prof. Badu Akosah and Prof Frimpong Boateng, the two Professors who have veered into partisan politics and so lost their professional commitment and gleam as a result, must do the humble thing by quietly quitting or get booted out to save the sector from the cosmic chaos and eventual collapse, the Heritage says.

It is an open secret that Prof Frimpong Boateng after some modest achievements as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, has for some months now, been abandoning his official duties at the hospital, to embark on ?political globe-trotting? to canvass for votes from the party?s delegates nationwide.

The Korle-Bu CEO has refused to listen to the numerous calls for him to resign when he made it clear that he is preparing to contest the NPPs Presidential primaries next year.

His desire for the presidency has ensured that not even a scintilla of effort is put to resolve the health workers? problems at the time they were simmering. In any case, how can somebody with divided attention take care of this army of health professionals?

The Daily Guide also in its June 7th edition reported that Prof. Badu Akosah is also nursing some ambition of contesting the next presidential election on the ticket of the Convention People?s Party (CPP). Even while the inferno rages at Korle-Bu, he was reported to be sauntering from Kumasi to Sunyani, for what reason or reasons.

Every passionate observer will easily see through that the current problem within the health sector is nothing but lack of efficiency and concentration among the key actors.

The junior doctors? unrest is largely due to hiccups and delays in payment of the Additional Duty Allowance (ADHA). Government?s inability to replace the ADHA is largely due to lack of good support from the leader and push from the leadership within the health sector.

The new salary structure that is meant to replace the ADHA could not come into effect because of inefficiency and lack of adequate concentration. So, unless these two individuals resign their posts and join politics or stop politics and concentrate on their jobs, the problem within the health sector can?t be resolved.
