GRNA screens women for breast cancer

Takoradi, May 20, GNA - The Western Regional Branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses Association (GRNA) on Friday screened about 100 women for breast cancer in Takoradi.

The programme forms part of this year's celebration of Nurses' Week. The women were taught how to conduct self-examination of their breast for traces of the disease.

Speaking on how the disease starts, Mrs Georgina Owusu-Acquah, a Midwife, advised women against the use of anti-perspiration preparations, which prevent sweat from coming out of the body.

Women should as much as possible refrain from high consumption of alcohol especially beer, she said. Mrs Owusu-Acquah said symptoms of the disease include lump in the breast, change of colour and inverted nipple.
