KNUST students tidy Kejetia Lorry Park

Kumasi, April 29, GNA--Members of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Science Students Association on Saturday, cleaned up the Kumasi Kejetia Lorry Park.

The 300 students spent five hours sweeping access roads, desilting drains and clearing refuse. Nana Pokuaa-Osae Awuku, an executive member of the association, said the exercise was part of activities marking the week-long celebration of the Science Faculty of the university.

She explained that since they have a stake in the lorry park, the students decided to contribute their quota towards its cleanliness and gave the assurance that the exercise would be a regular affair.

Nana Owusu Afriyie, Assemblyman for Adum-Nsuase electoral area, commended them for their concern and called on other groups to emulate them. He said that since the environmental problem at the park is a major one it should not be left on the shoulders of the people of the electoral area alone but should be the responsibility of all residents of the metropolis.

Nana Afriyie urged traders at the park to ensure that they clear the rubbish they create at the end of their day's work.
