Zoomlion moves to rid Central Region of filth and bedbugs

Sanitation and Waste Management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has rolled out strategies to make the central region the cleanest region in the country.

The move, according to the company’s central regional head in charge of Environmental and Sanitation, Gideon Sogby, is to reposition the region as the preferred destination for tourism and investment as no tourist or investor would want to visit or invest in a dirty setting.

The strategies, he explained include fumigation of all refuse sites, final disposal sites, refuse containers stationed in the various communities as well as fumigating all health centres to bring to the barest minimum the potential of pathogenic and microorganism infections.

The group, he explains will also undertake periodic clean up exercises in all the communities so as to prevent any potential disease outbreak like cholera even as the rains set in.

Sanitation in the region, he indicated, must be taking seriously especially against the backdrop that many people lost their lives in the last four years due to cholera outbreaks in the area.

More people, he said will be stationed at the various communities to attend to the sanitation challenges in such places while again providing more litter bins at vantage points to avert littering in such communities to avoid potential disease outbreak as a result of the filth.

He added that all pubic latrines will also be fumigated to make it more user friendly while reducing the potential for disease infestation due to the continuous use of such facilities.

Speaking at the beginning of the company’s fumigation of the various metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies in the region, the health expert, Mr. Gideon Sogbey indicated that it is their desire to make the various assemblies safe and clean for habitation and work hence the fumigation of such government institutions.

One other critical area to receive attention, he said, is the various secondary schools in the region especially those experiencing bedbug infestations.

The group, he added will engage in periodic fumigation exercises at such places to rid the schools completely of bedbugs, reptiles and other insect invasions which tend to impede teaching and learning activities in such schools.

It must be noted that in the last months two schools in the region, Adisadel College and Aggrey Memorial Zion Secondary School have been at the receiving end when it comes to bedbug infestation.

He however called on the public to ensure their personal hygiene as that is key to the prevention of diseases and resultant deaths.
