Koforidua, Jan. 6, GNA - Zoomlion, a waste management company, in collaboration with the New Juaben Municipal Assembly, on Friday spent several hours in a clean-up exercise in Koforidua.
Speaking to the media after the exercise Mr Ernest Kusi, Eastern Regional Operations Director of the company, said the exercise was in response to President John Evans Attah Mills' vision of ensuring a clean nation in his first 100 days in office.
The exercise was carried out at the central business area, the regional coordinating council, the central market and central police station area. Mr Kusi said his outfit provided equipment such as rake, nose mask, shovels, trial cycle, bicycles gloves and personnel for the exercise and the exercise would be undertaken from time to time. Mr Kusi appealed to the people to take advantage of the company's free dust bin distribution exercise to avoid a situation where refuse are dumped indiscriminately
Mr Kusi said one way to avoid the current cholera outbreak in some parts of the country was to ensure better ways of refuse disposal. Police officers from the central police station led by the Municipal Police Commander, Police Superintendent John Naami and some personnel from the Fire Service took part in the exercise.
