Mr Gibrine Tanko Toye, Vice Chairman of the Agona West Constituency branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has released 300,000 Ghana Cedis to three banks in the Municipality, for disbursement to Zongo Women in the area to expand their businesses.
The banks are the Nyakrom Rural bank, the Agona Rural and Agricultural Development Banks (ADB), both at Agona Swedru.
Mr Toye who made this known to the Press on Sunday at Agona Swedru, said the move followed a passionate appeal by the Zongo Women for financial assistance to support their small-scale enterprises (SMEs).
Mr Toye said a survey he conducted revealed that the women were currently struggling before they could receive loans from the banks and other non-banking institutions in the area.
He pointed out that every Zongo woman, irrespective of her political and religious background and affiliation, would benefit from the scheme.
According to him, the rationale behind the assistance was to help them to improve their living conditions, support their husbands to give quality education to their children to become useful future adults.
He observed that trading and other small-scale economic activities of the Zongo Women within Municipality were not progressing, due to financial difficulties facing them.
The Vice Chairman said the release of the funds was a major boost to the Zongo Women to expand their businesses.
He said the time had come for Zongo women to be liberated from abject poverty.
Mr Tanko Toye said the Zongo women in Agona West needed to be assisted financially to improve their lot.
He said the money would be put into a revolving fund, and therefore appealed to the beneficiaries to pay back the loans to enable others to benefit.
Mr Tanko Toye called on the Zongo women to rally behind the NPP to win the 2016 elections so that more financial support could be given to them.
He appealed to them to resist the temptation of allowing themselves to be induced by selfish individuals.
