Zongo Ministry builds capacity of youth for labour market

The Ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development has rolled out a nationwide training programme to equip the youth with relevant skills and knowledge for the contemporary labour market.

The programme, a collaborative work of government and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, a German- based organization, is to enhance youth employment by building on the confidence and entrepreneurial acumen of the beneficiaries.

They would be exposed to work ethics and manners, Information Technology (IT), labour market readiness and curriculum vitae preparation, as well as development of other business documents.

Dr Joseph Darmoe, Director in-charge of Research, Statistics and Information Management (RSIM) at the Ministry, addressing the closing session of a programme in Kumasi, said it is imperative that the youth avail themselves for the training.

This is because it has been designed to enable the beneficiaries come to terms with the demands and opportunities of the labour market.

The event, hosted at the Kumasi campus of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), forms part of the first phase of the nationwide programme.

It brought together 25 selected youth from varied professional backgrounds in the Ashanti Region, and were taught labour market readiness and curriculum vitae preparation.

Dr Darmoe said the Ministry has targeted the youth with some level of education for training, especially those in the inner-city, urging the participants to appreciate good work ethics.

As part of the programme, he said, the Ministry would be facilitating job placements for the beneficiaries.

Dr Ama Morrison, a Lecturer of the GIMPA Business School, said the first in the series of the training sought to build the confidence of the participants as they ventured into the labour market.

They were presented with certificates to signify the successful completion of the three-day course.
