Youth voice their challenges at mock Assembly

The Youth in the Awutu-Senya District on Thursday organised a Youth Mock Assembly at Ahentia to voice out some challenges that impede their development.

They mentioned some of the challenges as child abuse, adolescent sexual reproductive issues and drug abuse.

The programme was organised by Awutu-Senya Directorate- National Youth Authority in collaboration with the Awutu-Senya District Assembly and sponsored by Plan Ghana.

It was under the theme “Our Children Must Tell Their Side of the Story, this can make the difference”.

In a resolution, the Assembly called on the government to create more jobs opportunities in the country.

They also appealed to stakeholders in education to let the welfare of children be their topmost priority, since they are the future leaders of the country and called for laws to be put in place to deal with parents who neglect their children.

The District Coordinator of the NYA, Mr. Emmanuel S. Martey, said the programme was to create platform for the children to voice out their feelings on issues that affect their lives.

The Assembly appealed to the government to ban the sale of pornographic and other negative films.

Dr.. Nuhu Adams, Awutu-Senya District Chief Executive, urged children to be respectful and avoid immoral acts including indecent dressing, pre-marital sex and other anti-social vices that could undermine their future.**
