Young Teranga lions burst Satellites’ bubbles

Two goals from the Young Teranga Lions of Senegal, forward Youssouph Badji, gave them a resounding victory over the Black Satellites of Ghana in the second Group B match in the ongoing Confederation of African Football (CAF) Youth Championship in Maradi, Niger.

Badji, with a goal in the 10th and 45th minute in the first half of the game, has booked Senegal a place into the semi-finals of the competition and also securing them a ticket for the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup in Poland later, after annexing six points from their first two group games.

Both countries started the game with good passing and possessive football, with Senegal sitting back and playing on the counter, which resulted in their first goal, as Badji left unmarked headed home the first goal.

The Black Satellites upped their game in search for an equalizer, but failed to make the numerous opportunities in front of goal count, as Mohamed Kudus and Daniel Lomotey kept firing off target.

The Young Teranga Lions made it count the second time, when another counter attack split the Ghana defense for Badji to slot home his second for the day.

With satellites coach Jimmy Cobblah criticizing Ghana’s fixture after Monday’s win over Burkina Faso over fatigue, was not far from right, as his team looked tired and struggled for majority of the game in search for a consolation goal.

Coach Cobblah’s team chasing a semi-final and world cup berth have now set a mouthwatering clash with Mali, who beat Burkina Faso earlier in Group B to earn three points equal to Ghana, with both sides having the potential to qualify for the world cup.
