The tragic passing of former Minister of Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and seven others in a fatal helicopter crash at Adansi Sikaman, while en route to an event at Obuasi, has left many of those who shared close connections with him in deep pain and sorrow.

Though the victims of the crash have been laid to rest with a befitting state burial, more stories continue to emerge about Dr Omane Boamah’s kindness and generosity prior to his tragic passing.

The latest is a poem he wrote for nine-year-old Setor before he went into the theatre. Dr Boamah had financially sponsored the medical surgery of the little boy.

The poem, shared by philanthropist, Bones Man TV, on Facebook on Saturday, August 16, 2025, captured the heartfelt words of Dr Omane Boamah as he expressed his admiration for the resilience and bravery of the nine-year-old.

The poem, titled, "My Poem for Setor Before Surgery Today," also featured Dr Omane Boamah offering heartfelt prayers for Setor’s recovery and expressing his unwavering support to him.

“You're strong and brave, Setor, don't you know? Your body's healing, and you'll be back to go! Playing, running, jumping with glee, in no time, you'll be wild and free! You've got this, Setor, you're doing great. Your body's fixing, don't hesitate. Rest, recover, and get strong. You'll be back to your favorite things all day long! You're not alone, you've got me, friends who care, family and love, always there to share. So keep on smiling, keep on being bright, you'll shine again, and everything's gonna be alright,” the poem reads.

Background

Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the late Minister of Defence, had stepped in to provide financial support to little Setor, who needed funds to undergo critical surgery to aid his mobility.

In a post on his Facebook page, Bones Man TV, a philanthropist who brought Setor’s plight to light, revealed how Dr Omane Boamah fulfilled his promise to cover the full cost of the surgery.

“Ghana's Defence Minister, Dr Omane Boamah, generously paid for the entire cost of surgery for 9-year-old Setor, who previously walked to school using a plastic chair. A few weeks ago, I reported that the Defence Minister had pledged to cover Setor's surgery costs. Not only did he honor his commitment, but he also maintained regular contact with the boy, calling almost daily to check on his well-being despite his busy schedule.

"Dr Omane Boamah's kindness and compassion are truly remarkable, as evidenced by his humility, love, and care throughout this process, despite us never having met. He invited me to his ministry, where he fully paid for Setor's surgery and committed to providing additional support,” Bones Man wrote.

Setor had a medical condition that affected his mobility, forcing him to use a plastic chair for support while walking and commuting to school.

However, thanks to medical surgery funded by the late minister, he is now expected to regain his ability to walk fully.
